NYC- Teens in the City

This summer my daughter and her boyfriend is going to New York City to visit my nephew and to explore New York City.


Here are some exciting things they plan on seeing and doing:


Explore the DUMBO area- DUMBO, short for Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass, is a vibrant neighborhood in the Brooklyn borough of New York City. Some things they plan on seeing in the area are:

  •  Timeout Market- New York’s destination for eating and drinking, featuring the city’s top chefs, most-talked-about restaurants and the buzziest bars—plus the latest in arts and culture all huddled together under one roof.

  • Manhattan Bridge View- Located along Washington Street is the best views of the Manhattan Bridge.

  • Pebble Beach- the multi-tiered sitting section at Pebble Beach provides an ideal spot to relax and take in the breathtaking views of the Manhattan skyline, the Brooklyn Bridge, and the Manhattan Bridge.

  • Brooklyn Bridge Park -is an 85-acre world-class sustainable park located along Brooklyn’s East River shoreline. Visitors can enjoy a variety of activities, including bike trails, picnic areas, sports courts, kayaking, quiet walking paths, and more!



Lower Manhattan- Lower Manhattan is the southernmost part of Manhattan and the neighborhood is the historical birthplace of New York City. Some things they plan on seeing in the area are:

  • Brooklyn Bridge- The Brooklyn Bridge was completed in 1883 and is one of the oldest suspension bridges in the U.S. connecting the two boroughs of Manhattan and Brooklyn over the East River. Walking the Brooklyn Bridge is one of the most popular things to do in Brooklyn and in New York City. The Brooklyn Bridge walk is a pedestrian walkway across the bridge that is slightly over 1.1 miles long.

  • The Seaport- The Seaport District is located on the East River. In the District, you will find historic cobblestones, waterfront views, a variety of shops, restaurants, and cafes. Whether you’re looking for unique gifts, fashion, or delicious food, the Seaport delivers.

  • Staten Island Ferry -free ferry ride that will take you right past the Statue of Liberty. The ride lasts about 30 minutes, and you’ll need to be quick to catch the return ferry to NYC. This is a great alternative for anyone wanting to see the Statue of Liberty on a budget.

  • 9/11 Memorial and Museum-A Museum located at the World Trade Center that explores the events of September 11, 2001. The National September 11 Memorial consists of two massive pools set within the original footprints of the Twin Towers. These pools are adorned with 30-foot waterfalls cascading down their sides. It’s a place for reflection, remembrance, and honoring the victims. The 9/11 Memorial Museum tells the poignant story of 9/11 through various media, narratives, and a collection of monumental and authentic artifacts.

  • World Trade Center Oculus- The Oculus is home to 12 subway lines, the World Trade Center PATH station, and dozens of retailers. You will be able to shop, dine, explore art and attend events both inside and outside the Oculus.

  • Ghostbusters Headquarters- the iconic firehouse that served as the base for the original Ghostbusters located at14 North Moore Street. This historic firehouse, officially known as Hook and Ladder Company 8.

  • Greenwich Village- is one of the City’s most iconic and historic neighborhoods and is known for its bohemian vibe, rich artistic history, and lush tree-lined streets. The neighborhood is a popular destination for a nightlife, as it is filled with restaurants, bars, live music, and comedy clubs You will find the following in the Village:

    • Washington Square Park- Washington Square Park’s centerpiece is a large fountain, which serves as a gathering place for all kinds of people. You’re bound to see street performers and musicians, as well as artists selling their work. And you’ll find that Washington Square Park is surrounded by beautiful historic buildings, many of which are part of New York University’s main campus.

    • Friends Apartment Building- the Friends apartment building can be found at the corner of Grove Street and Bedford Street in the West Village of Manhattan.

    • Walk along Bleecker Street- one of the most famous streets in New York City. Across several blocks, you will find restaurants, cafes, nightclubs, live music, and shopping.

  • Chinatown- is a city within the city, featuring traditional dim sum, grocery stores, noodle houses, souvenir stalls, bubble tea shops, and even modern concepts like speakeasies and bars.

  • Chelsea Market- This iconic market is a food hall, shopping mall, office building, and a television production facility. It’s a place where you can explore diverse food and unique shops.

  • The High Line Park- is a 1.45-mile-long elevated linear park, greenway, and rail trail created on a former New York Central Railroad.

  • Museum of Ice Cream- a unique museum dedicated to ice cream and visitors can exploring interactive exhibits while enjoying ice cream.




Midtown- is the central portion of Manhattan and serves as the city's primary central business district. Midtown is home to some of the city's most prominent buildings, including the Empire State Building, the Chrysler Building, the headquarters of the United Nations, Grand Central Terminal, and Rockefeller Center, as well as several prominent tourist destinations including Broadway, Times Square.




Central Park- the urban park is located in the heart of New York City and spans 843 acres. Here are some attractions and activities you can do in the park.

Attractions and Activities:

  • Ramble and Lake- the 36 acres was designed to look like the forests of upstate New York and includes winding trails, rustic bridges, a stream, and dense plantings.

  • Hallett Nature Sanctuary- Rustic trails wind up and down the hill, leading to various overlooks and sitting areas near the shore of the Pond.

  • Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir- is the largest water body in Central Park and one of its most popular destinations for running with a 1.58 miles track

  • Wollman Rink- an ice-skating rink located in the southern part of Central Park

  • Central Park Carousel -a popular amusement ride in the south end of Central Park

  • Central Park Zoo- Located at the southeast corner of Central Park, the zoo features animals from tropical, temperate, and polar regions.

  • Bethesda Fountain- A stunning neoclassical fountain with an angel statue, situated at the Bethesda Terrace.

  • Belvedere Castle- was originally designed as a lookout tower and place from which to enjoy expansive views of the surrounding landscapes.

  • Delacorte Theater- Known for its outdoor performances, including Shakespeare in the Park

  • Strawberry Fields- is a memorial to the British rock musician and peace activist John Lennon

  • Alice in Wonderland- the Alice in Wonderland statue stands eleven feet tall in bronze, surrounded by the Mad Hatter, the White Rabbit and a few of her other friends.
