Fun in Orlando without Mickey!

Updated: Mar 1, 2024

Our family loves going to Florida and visiting the Orlando/Kissimmee area. A lot of people go to this area to visit Disney World or Universal Studios, but there is so much more you can do.

Volunteering at Give Kids the World Village.

Give Kids the World Village is an 89-acre nonprofit resort that provides critically ill children and their families with week-long wish vacations at no cost. The Village encompasses 166 private storybook villas, four accessible rides and a lot of attractions, including the Castle of Miracles (where the stars of every child who has visited are displayed on the ceiling). During a typical year, volunteers fill approximately 1,800 volunteer shifts each week. In August 2014, our family got to stay at the village during my son's Make-A-Wish trip. The village will not be able to run without volunteers, so our family thinks it is important to volunteer there.
