Day 2- UK Cruise- London

Updated: Feb 25, 2024

It's Day 2 of our vacation and we get to spend another day exploring Central London. We felt so good after finally sleeping all night and eating breakfast at the motel. My mom, my aunt Judy, Jeremy, and I started our day by catching the Elizabeth Line train from Heathrow Airport to Paddington Station. Our plan was to get on the Hop On- Hop Off Bus and go to the Tower of London, but after waiting forever for the bus with a lot of people we decided to hop on the Underground again to save time.

Exploring the Tower of London was amazing. I love learning about history and was excited to see the Bloody Tower, where the young princes were prisoners before they disappeared. We also saw the Royal Beast, torture tower, the White Tower, some of the crown jewels (a lot of the pieces were getting ready for the King's coronation) and a LOT more. I could have spent the entire day there.

The next stop of the day was the London Eye where we were going to meet up with my aunt Barb and aunt Pat, who just flew in that day. While my aunts rode the London Eye, we got a snack and people watch. We had fun playing “Guess the Americans” and it was so easy to spot them by all! After my aunts were done, we went back across the bridge (where we saw a person playing bagpipes!) and got on a boat for a short river cruise. The staff of this boat knew many great stories about the river, and we got off near the London Bridge.

We got back on the Underground and went to Convent Garden district to meet the rest of our group at the Lamb and Flag for supper. It was not easy to find the restaurant as it was down an alley, and it was a small building. Once again, I had a pie and fresh chips, and it was delicious.

After supper, out plans was to take the Underground to Hyde Park and walk to Kensington Palace. When we near the train, we saw the doors were open and we rushed to get on. That was a mistake because the doors closed, and my aunt Judy did not make it on. Her jaw dropped to the ground as we pulled away. There was a man next to me and our conversation went like this

Man: “Did you know her”

Me: ”Yes, she is my aunt”

Man: “You are never going to find her again” (Laughing)

Me: “That is ok; I have two more and my mom on the train!”

We got off at the next stop thinking my aunt will get on the next train, but we did not know that a staff member of the Underground told Judy to wait for us to come back. We waited awhile and we decided to go to our regular stop in case Judy was on the train and we missed her. When we got to our stop, Pat and Jeremy went to the street level to try to call her, but because Judy was on the Underground level her phone did not work. Finally, I decided to head back to where we left Judy and hoping that I could find her, but she was not there! I did not know Pat finally talked to Judy (who went up to the street level so her phone would work) and told her to get on the train. By the time, I got back to everyone, Pat and Barb decided to go back to their hotel as they were tired and Jeremy, my mom, and Judy headed to Hyde Park.

Hyde Park is huge, and we walked along a pond and saw baby ducks. At the end of park, we saw Kensington Palace and the gardens. I was able to find Prince William and Princess Kate’s apartment, but I could not find any of the royals!

After exploring, we were tired and went back to the hotel to go to bed.
